Reporter – Darwin

About the role

Gazette is a media company building a network of local newsrooms across Australia, funded by advertising, philanthropy and reader donations. It is hiring a full-time reporter for a new masthead covering Darwin and Palmerston, with a team of 10 reporters across nine mastheads. The reporter reports to the Editorial Director.

Key responsibilities

• Find and report local stories across news, lifestyle and culture, from everyday community issues to public interest work
• Publish free local news, lifestyle and culture across newsletters, social media, video and the website, focusing on practical information and underreported topics such as climate and energy, cost of living, housing, infrastructure, education, healthcare and essential services
• Work across formats, from short explainers and newsletters to social posts and vertical video
• Spend time in the community building relationships with locals, businesses, community groups and decision makers
• Shape the editorial voice of a young masthead and try new formats and ideas
• Work with editorial and audience teams to grow reach

Required profile

• A driver's licence, as driving across the patch is required to report stories
• Ongoing right to work full time in Australia; the employer cannot sponsor visas
• Connection to the Darwin area
• Willingness to write scripts, appear on camera and edit your own material
