Remote Linux Engineer

About the role

A remote Linux Engineer is sought to provide technical support across customer Linux, cloud and hybrid environments. The role combines infrastructure support, Java application support, automation and operational excellence, and involves resolving complex incidents and service requests, performing root cause analysis and driving automation. The budgeted salary is up to 120k AUD per annum, with superannuation; candidates do not need to live in Sydney but must live within the Eastern Coast time zone.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for Linux infrastructure and hosted applications, owning incidents, service requests, problems and changes through to resolution.
• Troubleshoot Java-based applications and their middleware, and perform root cause analysis on complex incidents.
• Analyse customer environments for trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
• Carry out Linux patching, upgrades, migrations and security remediation.
• Design and maintain automation solutions, and improve monitoring, alerting and observability.
• Ensure platform stability, high availability, backup and recovery, and work with security teams on security events.
• Manage escalations, mentor junior engineers, write runbooks and knowledge articles, and take part in an out-of-hours on-call rota.

Required profile

• Proven Linux administration experience in enterprise production environments (5+ years preferred).
• 2nd and 3rd line support and Java application support experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, and experience in managed services and on-call rotations.
• Experience with Azure cloud environments.

• Linux administration: RHEL, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, LVM, PAM.
• Ansible, Bash, Python, PowerShell.
• Java application support, Apache HTTPD, NGINX.
• Azure infrastructure and networking, including NSGs, high availability and load balancing.
• Backup, recovery, logging, SSL/TLS and cryptography.
• Desirable: Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Apache Spark, Cassandra, Git, CI/CD, ITIL.
