Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 (Mental Health)

About the role

The Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 (RPN2) provides specialist mental health nursing care within a secure forensic environment. The role combines therapeutic engagement, recovery-focused practice, risk management, care coordination and participation in multidisciplinary treatment programs. RPN2s may also rotate through the Early Intervention Support Team (EIST), supporting clinical teams with de-escalation, behavioural management and therapeutic engagement across the hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist mental health nursing care in a secure forensic setting
• Rotate through the Early Intervention Support Team (EIST) to support de-escalation, behavioural management and therapeutic engagement
• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
• Develop and implement recovery-focused care plans
• Manage challenging behaviours and undertake risk assessment and risk management planning
• Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning
• Administer and monitor psychotropic medications
• Deliver group-based therapeutic interventions and engage consumers with severe and persistent mental illness

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
• Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (or recognised equivalent)
• Eligibility to work in Australia and ability to satisfy police and security screening requirements
• Typically 2+ years of post-registration psychiatric nursing experience; highly desirable experience in adult inpatient, acute psychiatric, forensic, PICU or correctional mental health settings
• Strong therapeutic engagement, emotional resilience, sound clinical judgement and commitment to consumer-centred care

Salary ranges from $86,580 per year for RPN2 Year 2 to $107,520.40 per year for RPN2 Year 8.
