Registered Nurse – Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre

About the role

The Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) at St Vincent’s Hospital provides short‑term crisis intervention for patients in acute mental health distress. As a Registered Nurse you will deliver safe, compassionate care within a 6‑bed specialised ward, working closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to consumers during their 72‑hour stay, including assessment, medication administration, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with psychiatry consultants, registrars, clinical nurse consultants, peer support workers and allied health professionals to develop and implement care plans.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies and Australian health regulations.
• Support consumers and families in navigating referrals to community and outreach services.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency.
• Effective time‑management and ability to prioritise competing workloads in a complex environment.
• Strong critical‑thinking, clinical decision‑making and interdisciplinary communication skills.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence‑based practice.
