Registered Midwife - Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice

About the role

Sydney Local Health District is recruiting a Registered Midwife for its Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The MGP midwife expands options for maternal health services for pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby, and works with non-Indigenous women when space allows in the caseload. The position is permanent full-time and part-time (minimum 32 hours per week) and is an Aboriginal identified position.

Key responsibilities

• Provide and coordinate woman-centred, evidence-informed midwifery care across pregnancy, birth and the postnatal/newborn period, consistent with NSW and SLHD policies, procedures and standards.
• Deliver clinical, cultural, educational and psychological support.
• Enhance the transition to child and family health nursing and other services or agencies as required.
• Work on an on-call roster covering pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period under the Pilot Annualised Salary agreement.

Required profile

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (identified position).
• Current AHPRA registration.
• Willingness to promote Aboriginal philosophies of health and wellbeing as holistic concepts and to centre knowledge, values and beliefs in care.
• Current NSW driver's licence (P1 and P2 acceptable) and willingness to travel.
