Refugee Health Nurse (RN Grade 3)

About the role

Cabrini Outreach, the charitable arm of Cabrini Health, runs the Cabrini Asylum Seeker and Refugee Health Hub in Northcote, which provides free primary healthcare and mental health support to people seeking asylum who are ineligible for Medicare or have no income. The hub is looking for an experienced Refugee Health Nurse / Practice Nurse (RN Grade 3) for a permanent position at 0.8 or 1.0 EFT. It is a nurse-led role combining acute clinical care, chronic disease management, immunisation, health education and complex care coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary healthcare to clients with diverse and often complex health needs
• Deliver acute clinical care, chronic disease management, immunisation and health education
• Coordinate complex care and help clients navigate healthcare
• Use culturally responsive assessment and cross-cultural communication skills

Required profile

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• At least two years' hospital experience across relevant clinical areas; emergency nursing experience highly regarded
• At least three years' clinical experience in primary healthcare, community nursing, international health or similar
• Experience in triage, clinical assessment, care planning, health education and complex care coordination
• Strong cross-cultural communication skills and experience working with professional interpreters
• Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound clinical judgement and seek advice when appropriate
• Nurse Immuniser qualification highly desirable, or willingness to complete the required training
• Previous experience with people seeking asylum and refugees highly desirable
