Quantity Surveyor – Major Project, Tasmania (2:1 Roster)

About the role

A commercially astute Quantity Surveyor is sought to support project cost management and commercial performance on a major project in Tasmania on a 2:1 roster. Working closely with project management, engineering and site teams, the role covers variations, budget monitoring, commercial risk and cost recovery. It suits a proactive commercial professional with strong analytical skills who wants to protect project profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, measure and quantify deviations from budgeted quantities, and track additional works and cost impacts
• Prepare, assess and manage variations, including supporting documentation and commercial justification
• Monitor actual quantities and costs against approved budgets and forecasts, flagging discrepancies and potential overruns
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities and implement strategies to minimise exposure and improve margins
• Recover legitimate additional costs and substantiate contractual entitlements
• Maintain variation registers, cost records and supporting documentation, reporting on cost movements and commercial exposure
• Work with project managers, engineers and site teams to capture scope changes and cost impacts
• Support commercial negotiations and dispute resolution on quantities, variations and contractual entitlements
• Ensure variations and cost claims meet contractual requirements

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in quantity surveying, estimating or project cost control
• Understanding of project profitability, contractual entitlements and cost recovery
• Experience monitoring budgets, forecasting costs and managing commercial risks
• Proactive, results-driven approach to protecting and improving project margins
