Quality Inspector

About the role

The Quality Inspector will ensure Austal's shipbuilding products and services meet required quality and regulatory standards. Working closely with Operations and under a lead’s guidance, the role supports business quality requirements and promotes consistent outcomes across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct quality control inspections throughout all stages of construction.
• Develop and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and related documentation.
• Coordinate and schedule inspections with internal teams, clients and classification bodies.
• Perform internal and external quality audits to ensure compliance.
• Manage non‑conformance reporting and maintain quality performance records.
• Support investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Industry‑recognised inspection qualification in structural, welding, piping, pressure vessel, paint or fit‑out disciplines.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in production, quality inspection or quality systems.
• Experience in manufacturing, fabrication or industrial environments.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
• Well‑developed analytical, problem‑solving and investigation skills.
• Audit experience and ability to manage conflict, negotiate and facilitate outcomes.
