Quality Assurance Advisor - Fabrication

About the role

As the Quality Assurance Advisor – Fabrication for Austal Defence Australia, you will ensure that fabricated products, processes and services meet the highest quality standards. You will work closely with operational teams, conduct audits, monitor compliance, investigate issues and support continuous improvement across the Quality Management System.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct subcontractor fabrication process audits and quality surveillance activities according to schedule.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with project fabrication quality requirements.
  • Identify, report and support resolution of fabrication non‑conformances and quality issues.
  • Lead investigations into quality events and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain and monitor quality assurance documentation, registers and reporting systems.
  • Review subcontractor fabrication objective quality evidence for compliance with project plans.
  • Assist with risk assessments and proactively manage quality risks across operations.
  • Partner with production teams, including fabrication areas, to drive quality outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote lessons learned across the business.

Required profile

  • Demonstrated experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control role within fabrication, shipbuilding or heavy‑industry manufacturing.
  • Experience working in fabrication, welding or production environments.
  • Qualifications in Quality, Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Welding inspection certification (CSWIP 3.1, IWI‑B or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems, preferably ISO 9001.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and surveillance activities.
  • Proven ability to investigate non‑conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across office and production settings.
  • Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance.
