Purchasing Specialist

About the role

APA is seeking a Purchasing Specialist to join the ID Commercial Delivery team. Reporting to the Manager, Purchasing & Expediting, you will support infrastructure projects by delivering timely and commercially sound purchasing, sourcing and supplier management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage purchasing activities from approved demand through to purchase order placement, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, commercially sound and compliant with procurement policies.
• Undertake sourcing activities, including RFQs, bid evaluations and supplier recommendations, balancing cost, schedule, quality, risk and value for money.
• Negotiate commercial terms, pricing and delivery requirements with suppliers to achieve fit‑for‑purpose contracting outcomes.
• Build and maintain effective supplier relationships, monitor performance and resolve commercial, delivery and supply issues.
• Coordinate purchasing, expediting and logistics activities with project teams, suppliers and service providers to meet project delivery dates.
• Maintain accurate purchase orders, sourcing records and ERP data, resolve purchasing and invoice issues, and ensure documentation is audit‑ready.

Required profile

• Experience in procurement, purchasing, sourcing, supply chain or a related commercial environment, ideally supporting major projects or infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience undertaking RFQs, evaluating supplier offers and making commercially sound recommendations.
• Strong commercial and negotiation capability with confidence to engage suppliers on pricing, terms and delivery commitments.
• Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple sourcing and purchasing activities, suppliers and deadlines concurrently.
• Understanding of purchasing and procurement governance, including purchase orders, contracts, delegations and audit requirements.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and attention to detail, working collaboratively across project, engineering and commercial teams.
