Project Engineer – Jigs & Fixtures

About the role

ASC is seeking a Project Engineer specialised in Jigs & Fixtures to support the design, management and sustainment of tooling for the Collins Class submarine programme. The role sits within the J&F team and works closely with engineering, production and supply‑chain functions to ensure tooling assets are reliable, well‑documented and available for ongoing submarine construction and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for jigs and fixtures across design, analysis and sustainment activities.
• Perform calculations, analysis and component or sub‑system design using established tools and processes.
• Prepare engineering documentation such as specifications, sketches, test procedures and reports.
• Review and validate engineering artefacts to ensure quality and compliance.
• Manage J&F asset documentation, configuration and maintenance requirements.
• Maintain accurate asset records in systems such as IFS and PLM.
• Liaise with production, engineering, supply chain and external partners to coordinate delivery and usage of tooling.
• Assess physical condition of existing jigs and fixtures, track demand and align tooling availability with program schedules.
• Support reporting, metrics development and continuous‑improvement initiatives within the J&F function.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified engineer eligible for professional membership (e.g., Engineers Australia).
• Experience in mechanical, structural or production engineering environments.
• Understanding of design, maintenance or manufacturing processes and engineering lifecycles.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with capacity to manage multiple tasks.
• Effective communication skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IFS asset‑management system.
• Experience using PLM configuration and documentation tools.
