Project Engineer, Electrical - Tangkam BESS

About the role

The Tangkam battery energy storage system (BESS) project, located about 30 km northwest of Toowoomba in Queensland, is a new 100MW, 2-hour (200MWh) facility connecting to the grid through an existing Powerlink substation. It stores surplus daytime energy for evening peak demand and supports grid stability. The Project Engineer, Electrical owns the electrical design and documentation for their assigned packages, reporting to the Project Manager and working with clients, consultants, subcontractors and construction teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver electrical design and documentation for assigned project packages, from drawings and cable schedules to specifications
• Coordinate electrical design with other disciplines and project interfaces
• Verify designs and complete quality checks on allocated deliverables
• Prepare scope documents, datasheets and take-offs for procurement and construction
• Support construction and commissioning, including RFIs, site queries and red-line markups
• Help improve design standards and templates, and use engineering judgement to resolve design issues
• Prepare safe work method statements and inspection and test plans
• Partner with clients, consultants and construction teams in design reviews

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (essential)
• Electrical design experience in infrastructure or utilities
• Knowledge of electrical standards such as AS/NZS 3000 and AS 2067
• Clear communication and strong teamwork across disciplines

Required skills

• Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, PowerCAD or Revit
