Project Director, Australian Government Consulting

About the role

Australian Government Consulting (AGC), part of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, is recruiting Project Directors to lead high-performing teams delivering management consultancy projects for Australian Public Service clients. The role suits candidates with a track record of solving complex strategic challenges, focusing on strategy, operating model and organisational design, evaluation and impact analysis. Candidates nominate their primary capability area during application.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of high-quality consulting projects that meet client needs, with a focus on strategic advice or building high-performing government agencies.
• Develop and refine AGC's service offers and methodologies, build its capability and contribute innovative ideas.
• Guide the team in applying structured problem-solving techniques, engaging stakeholders and analysing data to produce meaningful advice.
• Contribute to the AGC Leadership Team, guiding its strategic direction and supporting a positive, inclusive workplace.

Required profile

• EL2 level in the PM&C Performance Model.
• Substantial experience in a consulting services environment (private or public sector) aligned with strategy, policy and/or organisational performance.
• Experience leading teams to plan, manage and deliver complex consulting projects using consulting and problem-solving methodologies.
• Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders and clients and negotiate outcomes.
• Flexibility and resilience in ambiguous, sometimes high-pressure environments.
• Australian citizen by the end of recruitment, able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (baseline vetting).
