About the role
The University of Melbourne seeks a leader to head the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DCD) Periodontics program, integrating specialist clinical training, research and curriculum innovation. This senior academic role will shape national and international standards in Periodontics while mentoring future specialist clinicians.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design, delivery and evaluation of the DCD Periodontics curriculum and assessments across clinical and academic components.
- Provide high‑quality clinical supervision and safe patient care at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, modelling evidence‑based multidisciplinary practice.
- Establish and lead an internationally recognised research programme, securing competitive funding and collaborative partnerships.
- Supervise and mentor higher degree and postgraduate research students, building research capacity across the discipline.
- Provide strategic leadership in national curriculum frameworks, accreditation standards and professional guidelines for specialist Periodontics.
Required profile
- Current or eligible specialist AHPRA registration in Periodontics without restrictions.
- Completed PhD in Periodontics or a closely related field with strong academic credentials.
- Demonstrated strategic leadership in specialist clinical teaching, curriculum design and educational innovation.
- Sustained record of high‑quality research, competitive grant success and translational outcomes.
- Extensive experience supervising higher degree and postgraduate research students to successful thesis completion.
- Confidence engaging with national and international professional bodies, accreditation panels and multidisciplinary clinical partners.

- Salary Level D: AUD 183,859‑202,556 p.a. or Level E: AUD 236,824 p.a. plus 17% superannuation and clinical loading of AUD 13,494 p.a.
