Job description
About the role
Eco Outdoor is looking for a Product Developer for Architectural Surfaces, a new full-time permanent role in its Product department in Sydney. It gives the core category dedicated development capability as the company takes on its biggest launch pipeline and continues to grow in the US. You will report to the Head of Product Development and work closely with the Head of Design, the Product Manager for Architectural Surfaces, suppliers and the Supply Chain team. The workplace is hybrid, Monday to Friday, with international travel several times a year.
Key responsibilities
- Lead new and evolved surface products from design handover to final resolution, turning design intent, material possibilities, supplier capabilities and commercial requirements into a clear path through sampling, trials, refinement and final selection.
- Make sure every product is fully resolved for specification, sampling, purchase, transport and handling, bringing together samples, specifications, quality standards, testing and installation requirements.
- Gather and interpret market data, customer feedback, sales insights, competitor activity and category trends, along with installation and builder considerations.
- Build material expertise, supplier relationships and a shared knowledge base, and help refine the processes and tools of the function.
- Gather and verify supplier and product information, including environmental data, modern slavery due diligence and Supplier Code of Conduct compliance, and set up consistent ways of recording it.
Required profile
- At least two years' experience in a related industry such as architecture, interior design or the building trades.
- Experience as a Product Developer or Brand/Product Manager in any product business is a bonus.
- No formal qualification needed; a curious, technical mind matters more than your background.
- Existing Australian working rights and comfort travelling internationally after 12 months.
Required skills
- Strong project management skills, able to manage competing priorities.
- A commercial mindset grounded in a clear understanding of the customer and the market.
- Curiosity for design paired with strong technical judgement, collaboration with suppliers and internal partners, and a practical, process-minded approach.
What we offer
- A competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
- Paid parental leave.
- 50 per cent off employee discount on Eco Outdoor products.
- Team events and activities, and an in-house barista coffee machine.
- Opportunities to grow within the global Eco Outdoor business and to contribute to the Social Housing and Sustainability teams.
