Process Operator - Bell Bay Smelter

About the role

Chandler Macleod is recruiting experienced Process Operators for an onsite assignment with Rio Tinto at the Bell Bay Smelter in Tasmania. The work is part of a safety-focused team supporting day-to-day operations alongside experienced crews. The position is temporary, with a 12-hour day/night roster and residential, DIDO or FIFO arrangements from Bell Bay.

Required profile

• Strong manual handling capability and physical fitness, including lifting up to 25 kg, pushing wheelbarrows, raking and manual skimming
• Ability to work in hot, dusty, high-risk environments around high temperatures, dust, molten metal and moving machinery
• Strong situational awareness and hazard recognition
• Willingness to work 12-hour day and night shifts
• Commitment to PPE compliance (long sleeves, heat-resistant gear, respirator, gloves, etc.)
• Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol testing
• Nice to have: exposure to industrial environments such as smelting, mining or manufacturing, previous shift work experience, strong work ethic and reliable attendance

Required skills

• Ability to follow detailed processes (SWIs/SOPs)
• Radio communication
• Comfortable working in a respirator and around magnetic fields
