Principal Warfare Officer Instructor

About the role

The Principal Warfare Officer Instructor will use extensive operational experience to deliver advanced surface warfare training to Royal Australian Navy officers at HMAS Stirling. This shore‑based position supports the development of tactical thinking, decision‑making and professional standards for future warfare leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advanced Surface Warfare Officer and Warfare Mastery training in classroom and simulator environments.
• Mentor, assess and guide Warfare Officers throughout their professional development.
• Facilitate tactical discussions, mission planning and post‑exercise debriefs.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Navy’s Warfare Mastery Continuum.

Required profile

• Advanced warfare qualification as a Principal Warfare Officer (PWO) or equivalent.
• At least 24 months of operational experience after qualification in a PWO or similar role.
• Recent operational experience in a surface warfare environment.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV2 Defence Security Clearance.
