Principal Procurement Officer (Building, Construction and Maintenance)

About the role

A large Queensland State Government department is recruiting an experienced procurement professional for its Building, Construction and Maintenance team, which delivers and maintains government buildings and infrastructure across Queensland. The role is a senior position providing strategic and operational procurement support, working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure compliance, good planning and value for money. It is advertised as a 6-month contract with a possible 6-month extension, paid at $92.48 per hour plus 12% super.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver procurement for building, construction and maintenance goods and services in line with the Queensland Procurement Policy 2026 (QPP2026).
• Develop procurement strategies, market approaches and evaluation plans.
• Prepare, manage and evaluate tenders, quotes and standing offer arrangements.
• Advise project managers and business stakeholders on procurement matters.
• Manage supplier relationships and contracts, including performance and contract variations.
• Ensure all procurement meets legislative, policy and governance requirements.
• Prepare briefs, reports and recommendations for senior management.
• Mentor and support less experienced team members where required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement within the Queensland Government.
• Strong working knowledge of QPP2026 and Queensland Government procurement frameworks.
• Experience in building, construction and/or maintenance procurement.
• Confident managing complex procurement from planning through to contract award.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Able to work independently, prioritise a heavy workload and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of QPP2026 and Queensland Government procurement frameworks.
• Experience with SAP or similar procurement systems is highly regarded.
