Principal Front-End Engineer – Mobile Platform

About the role
Canva is looking for a Principal Front-End Engineer to lead the Mobile Platform team in Melbourne. You will shape the architecture that powers Canva’s iOS and Android experiences, enabling product teams to deliver native‑feel features across devices.
Key responsibilities
- Define and own the technical direction of the hybrid stack, combining React, React Native and supporting libraries.
- Build and ship production‑ready code within the first six months, delivering features to millions of users.
- Design reusable, high‑performance components and integrations for editing and rendering systems.
- Collaborate with product, design and infrastructure teams to solve cross‑platform challenges.
- Lead by example, staying hands‑on in code rather than only architectural diagrams.
Required profile
- Proven experience designing and delivering large‑scale front‑end solutions for mobile platforms.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of influencing technical decisions.
- Ability to work in a fast‑moving environment and ship features quickly.
