Principal Data Engineer

About the role

Optiver is building a governed data foundation that unifies fragmented business data across Finance, People, Procurement, Tax and Compliance. As a Principal Data Engineer you will own the design, implementation and production delivery of this modern data stack.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and deliver shared data products from design through production, covering multiple business domains.
• Build and evolve the semantic layer that powers reporting, self‑service analytics, conversational analytics and Databricks Genie.
• Design scalable pipelines, data models and governed products using Databricks, dbt, SQL and PySpark.
• Implement end‑to‑end governance with Unity Catalog, column‑level security, PII classification, lineage and data quality standards.
• Drive DataHub adoption by defining metadata standards, lineage definitions and ownership models.
• Translate complex stakeholder requirements into production‑grade data solutions and own the problem from conversation to deployment.

Required profile

• 12+ years of experience designing and delivering production data solutions with end‑to‑end architectural ownership.
• Deep expertise in Databricks, Lakehouse architectures and modern data technologies.
• Proven experience implementing governance at scale, including access control, PII handling and data lineage.
• Background building trusted business‑facing data products for Finance, HR, Procurement or similar domains.

Required skills

• Expert‑level SQL.
• Hands‑on experience with dbt and PySpark.
• Strong knowledge of Databricks, Unity Catalog and DataHub.
