Principal Commissioning Manager – ETCS Level 2 Deployment

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Principal Commissioning Manager to lead Test & Commissioning activities for a major brownfield rail transformation program in Brisbane. You will provide strategic leadership and governance across multiple ETCS Level 2 work packages, ensuring safe and compliant integration of signalling systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall Test & Commissioning delivery strategy for the ETCS Level 2 program.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary T&C managers, engineers and delivery partners to align schedules, standards and reporting.
• Manage interfaces between signalling, telecommunications, rolling stock, infrastructure, operations and maintenance stakeholders.
• Oversee factory, site, integration, dynamic, shadow operations and entry‑into‑service testing.
• Chair governance forums, report on readiness, risks and issues, and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Engineering degree with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership and RPEQ registration (preferred).
• Minimum 15 years of railway systems delivery experience, including senior testing and commissioning leadership.
• Proven track record delivering ETCS Level 2, Level 1, CBTC, ATP or major signalling projects in brownfield environments.
• Extensive experience in systems integration, safety assurance, RAMS, configuration control and acceptance processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, risk management and commercial awareness.
