Principal Civil Designer

About the role

Harrison Infrastructure Group (HIG), a 30-year-old Queensland engineering consultancy, is looking for a full-time Principal Civil Designer to act as the senior technical lead on its civil design projects. The role is ideally based in Toowoomba, reporting to the Toowoomba Office Manager, but HIG is also open to candidates based in its Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg or Rockhampton offices. You will own projects from concept to completion, guide and mentor the design team, and have a clear path into leading projects across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Scope and estimate civil design projects and prepare civil designs and detailed design documentation
• Set tasks and priorities for design and technical staff so projects stay on track
• Mentor junior team members and help build their technical skills
• Lead the design and documentation of civil infrastructure projects from concept to completion
• Manage and coordinate subconsultants and keep clients engaged while managing stakeholder expectations
• Track budgets and forecast and report on project spend

Required profile

• Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering and 10+ years of civil design experience across urban and rural roads, traffic and/or hydraulics
• Proven track record in project management and cost control
• Knowledge of Austroads, TMR and local authority standards
• Australian citizenship is required

Required skills

• Advanced AutoCAD, 12d and/or Civil 3D skills
• Strong Microsoft Office skills
• Preferred: experience on TMR projects, land development and subdivision design, advanced 12d capability, Water Services Association (WSA) experience
