Concreting Trainee - Toowoomba

About the role

Golden West Apprenticeships is recruiting two concreting trainees based in the Toowoomba area. This 24-month full-time apprenticeship combines on-the-job work experience with a nationally recognised course delivered by a registered training organisation. Successful applicants learn to mix, pour, spread, finish and reinforce concrete for structures such as floors, stairs, bridges, building ramps and footpaths.

Key responsibilities

• Mix, pour, spread, finish, reinforce and cut concrete for floors, stairs, bridges, ramps and footpaths
• Interpret building plans or drawings
• Weigh and mix concrete materials (gravel, sand, cement and water)
• Pour, spread, compact, smooth and polish concrete by hand or machine
• Construct concrete formwork and lay steel reinforcement
• Operate trowelling machines to float, trowel and polish concrete surfaces
• Form expansion joints and edges with edging tools, jointers and straight edges
• Install fixtures in concrete such as anchor bolts and steel

Required profile

• Willingness to develop skills and knowledge, and to listen, follow instructions and ask for help
• Hardworking, physically fit and able to work independently; an interest in building and engineering is useful
• Ability to contribute positively to the workplace, be punctual and follow workplace policies
• Ability to act responsibly and safely, and to build good working relationships with the apprenticeship team
• Ability to complete timesheets correctly and on time
• Desirable: work experience in the industry, a driver's licence or close to one, strength to lift 10-15 kg regularly, and availability for early morning starts (4 am)

Trainees must abide by the training contract, complete inductions, perform work satisfactorily, complete the training plan within the allocated timeframe and comply with the Further Education and Training Act and the Work Health and Safety Act.
