Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Sociology & Social Policy

About the role

The School of Social Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to lead an independent research programme in sociology and social policy. The role focuses on equity, social justice and social change, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the university’s 2030 Strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a high‑quality research agenda producing peer‑reviewed publications and impact activities.
• Prepare and submit competitive Category 2‑4 research grant applications to external funders.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry, policy makers and funding bodies.
• Contribute to the School’s research culture through workshops, seminars, mentoring and collaborative projects.
• Participate in departmental and university meetings and undertake professional development as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
• Emerging research profile demonstrated by publications and involvement in funded projects, preferably in areas such as Sexualities and Genders, Challenging Racism or Critical Pedagogies.
• Ability to translate research for public audiences and engage with non‑academic stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to academic and non‑academic contexts.
• Collaborative and collegial working style with excellent interpersonal abilities.

• Full‑time fixed‑term contract (until 31 December 2028) with a salary range of AUD 97,153–117,376 per year plus superannuation and leave loading.
