Plant Engineer - Meat Processing

About the role

JBS Australia, the region's largest beef and lamb producer, is looking for an experienced Plant Engineer to lead its engineering team at the Brooklyn facility, the largest multi-species processing site in the Southern Hemisphere. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role gives operational and technical leadership to a maintenance workforce of 1 supervisor and up to 40 tradespeople. It suits an engineering professional who enjoys fast-paced, high-volume, highly regulated food manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily engineering and maintenance operations on the kill floor and fabrication machinery
• Implement and optimise preventive, predictive and reliability-centred maintenance systems
• Lead, coach and develop the maintenance team, including a supervisor and up to 40 tradespeople
• Align maintenance resourcing with production demands in a high-volume environment
• Manage contractors and specialist service providers
• Analyse maintenance and production data to improve equipment performance, uptime and reliability
• Take part in site projects, upgrades and infrastructure improvements
• Drive WHS, environmental compliance and safety across all engineering activities

Required profile

• Degree in mechanical, electrical or related engineering
• Extensive plant/maintenance engineering experience in food manufacturing (meat processing highly regarded)
• Leadership experience managing supervisors and large trade teams
• Solid understanding of WHS and environmental regulatory requirements
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-compliance environment
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Required skills

• Hands-on knowledge of kill floor, fabrication or other high-volume food-processing equipment
• Problem-solving: RCA, 5-Whys, PDCA, KPI-driven decision making
• Refrigeration and boiler systems (desirable)
• Postgraduate training in maintenance or reliability engineering (desirable)
