PGY3 Surgical Trainee (Short-Term Contract)

About the role

This is a short-term contract position for a PGY3 surgical trainee, open to immediate start and ending at the end of the 2026 clinical year. It suits early-career doctors seeking exposure to general and subspecialty surgical units, with support from the Pre-SET Society, mentorship and surgical supervisors. Casual employment is also open.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, person-centred care within multi-disciplinary teams and commit to ongoing learning and professional development.
• Manage time and daily workload through prioritisation and punctuality.
• Apply evidence-based practice, using current literature to make assessments and management decisions.
• Communicate clearly with patients, aware of cultural, religious and gender differences.
• Follow professional and ethical codes and give clear handover to senior clinicians, colleagues, nurses and allied health professionals, especially for very sick patients.
• Respect the leadership and varied roles within the team.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent.
• Provisional or General AHPRA registration.
• Current National criminal history check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain them.
• Full working rights within Australia.
• Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and develop.
