Perception Engineer – Localization & Sensor Fusion

About the role

Breaker is building a 3D localisation pipeline that turns 2D camera detections into accurate world coordinates using only passive sensors. As a Perception Engineer you will own this pipeline end‑to‑end, improving accuracy on moving robotic platforms and expanding capabilities across diverse hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Own the accuracy and performance of the 3D localisation pipeline, from 2D bounding boxes to lat/long/alt outputs.
• Build metrics, ground‑truth collection processes and automated evaluation tooling.
• Research, prototype and deploy new localisation and sensor‑fusion techniques.
• Extend the system to track moving objects from moving platforms and generalise across camera hardware.
• Define interface contracts with CV, hardware and field‑operations teams.
• Analyse field data, identify failure modes and feed improvements back into development.
• Participate in regular field testing and train field teams on data‑collection requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience with camera‑based localisation on moving robotic platforms (monocular or stereo).
• Strong fundamentals in sensor fusion, timing and calibration.
• Experience processing real‑time data on constrained or edge‑deployed hardware.
• Ability to dig into robotic datasets, troubleshoot localisation failures and implement systematic improvements.
• Must have working rights in Australia and be willing to conduct regular field testing.
