Pastoral Care Volunteer - Home Visits, Sinnamon Park

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a pastoral care volunteer to visit a thoughtful, spiritually curious man once every two weeks. He is mostly immobile due to health issues but enjoys rich discussion on topics such as history, geography, politics and the deeper questions of life; he identifies as Christian and welcomes open, reflective conversations on faith. The volunteer brings conversation, connection and spiritual companionship to his fortnightly visits.

Key responsibilities

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development
• Supplement and complement the work of the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator, working under their direction
• Visit the client once every two weeks, ideally between 9am and 4pm on weekdays; frequency may vary depending on availability

Required profile

• 18 years or older
• Able to listen and pray with someone who wants to be heard
• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to complete HammondCare pastoral care training
• Interest in the Spiritual Care Series, in preparation for becoming a pastoral care volunteer
