Pastoral Care Volunteer - Home Visits, Clontarf

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a pastoral care volunteer to visit a gentle, soft-spoken widower once every fortnight. He is in good health but spends most days alone and deeply values meaningful connection; he enjoys sharing stories of his life in South Africa, his years of work and the faith that gives him purpose. You will complement the work of the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the client once every fortnight, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, for about an hour, depending on availability
• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development
• Offer a listening ear, comfort, presence and hope, and share conversation and spiritual companionship

Required profile

• 18 years or older
• A National Volunteer Police Check, arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral Care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to complete HammondCare pastoral care training
• Interest in the Spiritual Care Series, in preparation for becoming a pastoral care volunteer
