Part-time A&E Receptionist – Hospital

About the role

The A&E Receptionist provides a professional front‑of‑house service in a fast‑paced emergency department. This permanent part‑time position works on a rotating 24/7 roster and supports patients, visitors and clinical staff throughout the day and after‑hours.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a welcoming front‑of‑house experience for patients and visitors.
• Manage the switchboard, internal emergency calls and email enquiries.
• Check‑in patients, process ambulance arrivals and maintain accurate records.
• Handle cash, EFTPOS transactions and provide clear financial consent information.
• Process patient billing, liaise with Medicare, DVA, Workcover and verify private health insurance.
• Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure seamless patient flow.
• Enter data across multiple computer systems, scan documentation and compile daily statistics.
• Provide after‑hours administrative support for the Emergency Department and other hospital units, including admissions, bed transfers and discharge processing.

Required profile

• Willingness to work a 24/7 rotating roster (early mornings, evenings, weekends and after‑hours).
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to multi‑task efficiently in a high‑pressure environment.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
