Operational Technology Engineer

About the role

The Operational Technology Engineer will bridge physical electrical infrastructure and digital control systems at the Karara Export Terminal. You will design, program, maintain and safely troubleshoot heavy electrical systems and the OT stack to ensure high plant reliability and data visibility.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
• Diagnose and repair faults in LV distribution, motor control, drives and instrumentation.
• Execute electrical installations, modifications, isolations and commissioning to site standards.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and optimise PLC, HMI, SCADA and communication systems.
• Integrate and support instrumentation, analytical and automation equipment.
• Manage OT infrastructure including servers, virtual environments, historians, databases and networks.
• Oversee network performance, cybersecurity, backups and disaster recovery.
• Maintain accurate documentation such as electrical drawings, P&IDs and control system diagrams.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or Electrical Trade Certification with a WA Electrical licence.
• Minimum 2 years experience with PCS and OT hardware/software.
• National Police clearance (MSIC requirement).
• Legal right to work permanently in Australia and resident of Geraldton.

Required skills

• GE Cimplicity SCADA (v8.2+).
• Microsoft Windows Server (including Windows Server 2019).
• Industrial Ethernet and FieldBus networking.
• Profibus DP and PA, Modbus/TCP, 4‑20 mA signalling.
• PLC programming and HMI development.
• SCADA control system configuration.
• Cybersecurity best practices for OT environments.
• Server virtualization, historians and database management.
• Network performance monitoring, backup and disaster‑recovery procedures.
