Operational Maintainer Traineeship – Rail Shunter

About the role

Aurizon is offering a structured Operational Maintainer (Rail Shunter) traineeship in Narngulu, WA. As a trainee you will gain hands‑on experience in rail operations while completing a nationally recognised qualification in shunting.

Key responsibilities

• Control the movement of trains and follow safety‑critical instructions.
• Inspect rolling stock for faults, carry out repairs, service and maintenance.
• Support maintenance of locomotives, ancillary vehicles, machines and equipment.
• Conduct brake testing of trains.
• Communicate with depot personnel, clients and train control via face‑to‑face and two‑way radio.
• Undertake shunting and marshalling of trains.

Required profile

• C Class Drivers Licence (mandatory).
• Strong commitment to safety and mechanical aptitude.
• Problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to work day & night shifts (up to 12 hr) including weekends.
• Ability to undergo psychometric testing, drug/alcohol test and criminal history check.
