Open Road Journalist

About the role

Join the NRMA’s flagship motoring and travel publication, Open Road, as a journalist creating engaging content for both print and digital platforms. You will inform, entertain and inspire Australians to drive, travel and explore with confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Pitch, research and write car reviews, road tests, feature articles and member‑focused stories for the print magazine.
• Produce timely, SEO‑optimised content on motoring, mobility and travel for Open Road’s digital channels.
• Attend vehicle launches, media events and industry briefings to deliver exclusive insights.
• Collaborate with editors, designers, content strategists and social teams to deliver world‑class content experiences.
• Use CMS platforms (e.g., Sitecore, WordPress) to publish and format web content and analyse performance with data tools.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications, Media or related field.
• Current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence (essential).
• Up to 5 years’ experience as a journalist, preferably in motoring, automotive, consumer or lifestyle content.
• Strong writing, research and interviewing skills with ability to simplify complex topics.

Required skills

• SEO best‑practice writing.
• Experience with web CMS platforms such as Sitecore and WordPress.
• Basic knowledge of data analytics tools like Google Analytics and SEMrush.
• Ability to create scripts and short‑form video content.
