Occupational Hygiene & Hazardous Materials Technician

About the role

WSP's Occupational Hygiene and Hazardous Materials team supports clients across industry, infrastructure, government and resources sectors with exposure monitoring, hazardous materials assessments and technical solutions. Due to continued growth, the team is seeking technicians to support field-based projects. About 50-80% of working time may be spent in the field, laboratory or technical workshop depending on local team and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake workplace exposure monitoring, hazardous materials sampling and site inspections.
• Prepare, calibrate and operate specialised sampling and monitoring equipment.
• Record field observations and maintain accurate technical documentation.
• Support laboratory preparation, sample handling and data management.
• Assist with technical reporting, proposal preparation and project delivery.
• Work closely with occupational hygienists, hazardous materials consultants and project managers.
• Contribute to a strong safety culture and deliver work in line with quality standards and approved methodologies.
• Comply with WSP governance, business management, quality, risk, ethics and information management requirements.

Required profile

• Year 12 completion or equivalent, with strong communication and numeracy skills.
• Current unrestricted driver's licence.
• Experience in occupational hygiene, hazardous materials, environmental monitoring, laboratory work, construction or a related field is highly regarded.
• Vocational or tertiary study in occupational hygiene, WHS, science, environmental health or a related discipline is advantageous.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues, a strong safety focus and attention to detail.
