Network Security Engineer – Firewall & Threat Protection

About the role

The NSW Police Force is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join its Network & Security Platform Services team. You will design, implement and maintain security controls that protect critical police systems and data, ensuring compliance with organisational standards and supporting public safety.

Key responsibilities

• Configure, deploy and manage Check Point and Cisco firewalls.
• Monitor firewall performance, logs and security alerts.
• Implement and maintain firewall policies, NAT rules, VPN configurations and ACLs.
• Conduct regular firewall rule reviews and optimisation.
• Troubleshoot network and security issues related to firewalls.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and policies.
• Maintain documentation for configurations, processes and incident reports.
• Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Required profile

• Minimum 5+ years hands‑on experience with firewall technologies.
• Strong knowledge of Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management.
• Relevant certifications such as CCSA/CCSE, CCNA or CCNP Security are preferred.

• Check Point Firewalls (R8x, Smart Console, Gaia OS)
• Cisco Firepower
• Firewall log analysis and troubleshooting tools
• SIEM tools (experience a plus)
• SASE solutions (highly desirable)
• Proofpoint Email Security (highly desirable)
