Job description
About the role
Kmart and Target are looking for a National Safety Risk and Governance Manager (also called the National Risk and Governance Manager) to lead the transformation of safety governance, assurance and risk management across the business. This is a pivotal national role on the Safety Leadership Team, covering Australia and New Zealand, and focuses on making safety a business enabler rather than compliance for its own sake.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and transform the enterprise-wide safety governance framework, including regulatory compliance, risk management, assurance and document control.
- Evolve the data and digitalisation strategy to enable stronger business outcomes.
- Oversee safe work practices, policies and risk assessments, with consistent review cycles, approvals and communication.
- Direct internal and external audit programs, turning findings into improvements.
- Drive the quality of incident, hazard, near miss and injury data, including weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and trend analysis.
- Manage key safety systems, databases and service contracts, and lead their evolution.
- Partner with operational and cross-functional stakeholders to embed safety requirements and controls into business initiatives.
- Champion change, uplift leader capability and embed a culture where safety and risk management enable business performance.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in a similar safety governance, risk, compliance or assurance role in a complex, highly regulated environment.
- Track record of improving safety and risk outcomes and of leading transformational change.
- Proven health and safety leadership with influence at senior levels and experience in multi-site environments.
- Strong analytical capability, turning safety data and trends into clear insights and actions.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Australian and New Zealand WHS legislation, regulatory compliance and self-insurance requirements.
- Experience designing audit, assurance, risk management and document governance programs.
- Safety governance frameworks such as ISO 45001 and ISO 31000, and risk assessment and control methodologies.
- Confidence with enterprise safety systems and data visualisation tools; experience with Ecoportal is highly regarded.
What we offer
- Flexible hybrid working through the Flex Where, Flex When, Flex Well policy.
- Team member discount card at Kmart, Target, Officeworks and Bunnings.
- Brighter Benefits program with discounts and benefits from over 60 suppliers.
- Bonus program for eligible team members.
- Inclusive parental leave and support through a partnership with Circle In.
- Learning and support program, mentor program and Kudos recognition program.
