National Payroll Manager

About the role

Heidelberg Materials Australia is seeking an experienced, people‑focused National Payroll Manager to lead payroll services across the organisation. Reporting to the National Payroll Process Owner, you will manage a team of seven professionals and ensure accurate, compliant payroll delivery for a large, geographically dispersed workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of payroll professionals.
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across the organisation.
• Maintain compliance with Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, awards and enterprise agreements.
• Drive payroll governance, risk management and audit compliance activities.
• Lead payroll process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Act as the SAP Payroll subject‑matter expert and support system enhancements.
• Partner with HR, Finance, IT and operational leaders to improve service delivery and employee experience.
• Oversee payroll reporting, reconciliations, month‑end activities and statutory obligations.
• Manage payroll‑related projects, including legislative changes, system upgrades and transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing end‑to‑end payroll operations in a large, complex organisation.
• Proven ability to lead and develop payroll teams.
• Extensive knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, awards and enterprise agreements.
• Experience driving payroll transformation, process improvements and system optimisation.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across senior business functions.

Required skills

• SAP Payroll (hands‑on experience essential).
