Mining Production Engineer – Weipa, Australia

About the role

Join Rio Tinto’s Weipa operation as a Mining Production Engineer, responsible for delivering reliable and sustainable mine planning services that support optimal performance of mining and plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Produce the weekly mine plan to maintain target grades and production tonnes.
• Generate accurate mine scheduling information for integrated operations.
• Prepare production area maps for grade control and provide machine‑guidance files.
• Communicate planning material to Mine Planning, Mine & Plant Operations, and Field Maintenance teams.
• Reconcile and report on the weekly plan, liaising with supervisors and superintendents.
• Manage plan deviations to preserve grades and tonnes, ensuring changes are communicated to peers.
• Maintain effective communication between site personnel and remote peers.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years’ experience as a short‑term mine planning engineer.
• Experience in bauxite operations is highly regarded.
• Strong understanding of truck/loader scheduling and overall mining design, scheduling, and operation.
• Basic knowledge of supply‑chain management and relevant mining legislation.

Required skills

• Mine scheduling and grade‑control mapping.
• Proficiency with CAD mining software (e.g., Deswik or similar).
• Experience using SAP or comparable business‑management software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
• Numerical analysis and data‑validation capabilities.
