Mining Engineer

About the role

The Mining Engineer will join the Capcoal Technical Services team at Anglo American Australia, supporting mine planning, design and operational execution for the Capcoal surface operation in Middlemount, Queensland. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the role offers a varied workload across daily, short‑term and longer‑term planning horizons and exposure to dragline, drill‑and‑blast, truck and shovel operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update daily and short‑term mine plans in partnership with operations teams.
• Support mine design, scheduling and production activities across multiple equipment fleets.
• Refine mine plans to meet execution targets and growth objectives.
• Provide technical input to improve productivity, safety and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with operations to ensure plans are practical and executable.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least two years of experience in a mining engineering role.
• Experience with dragline, truck‑and‑shovel or drill‑and‑blast operations on large‑scale open‑cut mines (preferred).
• Exposure to mine planning, design or operational engineering functions.
• Familiarity with mining software used for planning, scheduling or design.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive, adaptable mindset.
• Commitment to safe work practices and site standards.
