Mining Engineer

About the role

The Mining Engineer will report to the Technical Services Superintendent and provide best‑practice engineering services for Dawson Mine’s open‑cut coal operations. You will develop short‑term mining strategies, design truck‑and‑excavator systems and produce efficient mine plans that support continuous production optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement short‑term mining plans and strategies for open‑cut coal pits.
• Design and optimise truck and excavator dig, dump and infrastructure layouts.
• Utilise mine design software to create achievable, cost‑effective mine plans.
• Collaborate with the production team to communicate schedules and ensure alignment with operational targets.
• Monitor plan compliance through daily, weekly and monthly reporting.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the mining process.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years post‑graduate experience in an open‑cut mining environment.
• Experience in short‑term design, planning or scheduling for open‑cut operations.
• Proven ability to work with truck‑and‑excavator design and open‑cut coal projects.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SPRY, Vulcan, Minescape, MINEX or similar mining software.
• Exposure to DESWIK (highly desirable).
