Mine Deputy - Underground Coal Mining

About the role

Cornwall Coal Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cement Australia, operates underground and open-cut coal mines and a coal processing plant in Fingal, about 1.5 hours from Launceston. As a Mine Deputy you will lead the underground operation at Blackwood Mine, combining statutory responsibilities with operational oversight and people leadership. The role suits a self-motivated leader who values operational excellence and a strong team culture.

Key responsibilities

• Fulfil statutory obligations as Mine Deputy, ensuring compliance with legislative and safety requirements
• Lead and supervise crews of up to 10 employees, setting clear expectations and leading by example
• Take full accountability for safety, compliance and production outcomes in your allocated area
• Plan and coordinate production and maintenance activities to support a safe, reliable coal supply
• Identify and address non-compliances or hazards
• Undertake handovers to oncoming Deputies and complete accurate shift reports
• Work with the Undermanager and fellow Deputies to meet production, quality, cost and resourcing targets

Required profile

• Mine Deputy Certificate of Competency (essential)
• Genuine commitment to safety leadership
• Previous underground coal mining experience; place change and extraction experience highly desirable
• Ability to challenge unsafe behaviour and to work in a team

• 4-day week (8.75 hours per day, Monday to Thursday) plus overtime when required
