Medical Director – Aeromedical & Emergency Services

About the role

The Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section is seeking a senior medical leader to head its Aeromedical and Emergency Services. Reporting to the Executive General Manager Health and Clinical Services / Chief Medical Officer, you will shape the future of one of Australia’s most respected retrieval services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership across aeromedical retrieval and pre‑hospital care.
• Lead the transition to a consultant‑led retrieval model, increasing senior clinician presence and mentorship.
• Champion clinical excellence, continuous improvement, governance, quality and patient safety.
• Oversee service innovation, workforce capability, education, training, credentialing and performance management.
• Develop contemporary retrieval models, enhance virtual care and emergency support services.
• Build strong partnerships with NSW Ambulance, NSW Health, Local Health Districts, universities and specialist colleges.
• Travel regularly between operational bases, primarily based in Dubbo or Broken Hill.

Required profile

• Specialist medical practitioner with Fellowship of ACEM, CICM, ANZCA, ACRRM or equivalent.
• Current Specialist Registration with AHPRA.
• Extensive experience in emergency medicine, aeromedical retrieval and senior clinical leadership.
