Media Advisor

About the role

Save the Children Australia is seeking a Media Advisor to join its Media team. In this full‑time permanent position you will help advance children’s rights by shaping strategic media engagement, creating compelling campaigns and delivering high‑impact storytelling across Australia and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute media strategies and campaigns that raise awareness, influence policy and promote children’s rights.
• Create engaging content and secure high‑profile coverage across traditional and digital media channels.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media stakeholders to position the organisation as a trusted voice.
• Provide media coaching, messaging support and interview preparation for spokespersons.
• Champion child safeguarding, youth participation and ethical engagement in all communications activities.

Required profile

• Exceptional storytelling and communication ability, capable of translating complex issues into compelling narratives.
• Proven success in media relations, story pitching and securing coverage across both traditional and digital platforms.
• Strong knowledge of the Australian media landscape and a genuine passion for children’s rights and advocacy.
• Creativity, resilience and adaptability with the capacity to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Relevant experience in media or communications, a commitment to child safeguarding and a collaborative, values‑driven approach.
