Mechanical/Auxiliary Systems Engineer (EL1)

About the role

The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) is delivering a historic nuclear‑powered submarine program. As a Mechanical/Auxiliary Systems Engineer (EL1) you will help shape this capability, ensuring safety, security and technical excellence across platform systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop methodologies and processes for understanding, assuring and certifying platform system aspects of the submarine capability.
• Collaborate with overseas partners, industry, regulators and internal stakeholders to apply best engineering practices.
• Prepare high‑quality briefs, reports, publications and presentations for senior decision‑makers.
• Recommend actions on approvals and certifications, especially when deviations from design or performance arise.
• Participate in trilateral meetings and workshops, occasionally outside standard Australian working hours.
• Mentor and coach less‑experienced team members and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Support additional duties as required by the Platforms Systems Branch.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, high‑stakes environment.
• Strong technical insight with a leadership mindset.
• Willingness to access sensitive IT systems and maintain a predominantly onsite presence.
• Flexibility to consider international placements in the US or UK after training.
