Mechanical Fitter – Maintenance

About the role

Join Saputo’s Specialty Cheese facility in Burnie as a Mechanical Fitter, working on a structured rotating shift roster to deliver preventative and reactive maintenance, fault finding and equipment improvements that support plant reliability and minimise downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake proactive, preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across the site.
• Diagnose faults and respond to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Perform mechanical fitting, machining and repairs on production equipment.
• Carry out welding and fabrication, including TIG welding on stainless steel.
• Support plant upgrades, installations and continuous improvement activities.
• Work safely and collaboratively with the broader maintenance and production teams.

Required profile

• Trade qualified in Mechanical Fitting, Fitting & Machining or a similar mechanical trade; strong 4th‑year apprentices also considered.
• Previous maintenance experience in dairy, food, FMCG or manufacturing is highly regarded.
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding skills and the ability to work confidently and autonomously.
• Experience with pneumatics is highly desirable; hydraulic knowledge is advantageous.
• Comfortable working a structured rotating roster that includes days, nights and weekends.
