Mechanical Fitter

About the role

BlueScope's Springhill - Port Kembla manufacturing site is looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join its Paint and Finishing Department (PFD) team. The PFD is the final step in making COLORBOND steel, where coils are painted and then packaged and shipped to Australian and international customers. The role suits someone who wants to develop their trade and leadership skills.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain mechanical equipment so that the product is of high quality and operates reliably
• Perform online and offline inspections to assess equipment condition
• Isolate equipment and lead preventative and corrective maintenance tasks
• Fault-find and eliminate defects to keep equipment running
• Rebuild and repair mechanical spares so equipment fleets stay available for continuous manufacturing
• Help procure consumables, tools and stocked spares for routine and shutdown maintenance using SAP, the computerised maintenance management system
• Seek ways to continuously improve maintenance practices and strategies

Required profile

• Fitting or machining trade qualification
• Experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment doing maintenance
• Ability to fault-find mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and its interaction with process-line automation
• Strong attention to detail and ability to resolve issues efficiently
• Commitment to personal safety and care for others
