Mechanical Engineer - Underground Coal Mine

About the role

A full-time permanent Mechanical Engineer is sought for the award-winning underground Aquila mine, a walk-on, walk-off longwall mine in Queensland. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent EEM, the engineer takes a hands-on approach, working with maintenance and operational teams to improve asset reliability, find improvement opportunities and deliver safe, efficient production. The position is on a 5/2 roster.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support across underground mining equipment and fixed plant assets
• Drive equipment reliability and maintenance improvement initiatives
• Manage asset integrity and engineering compliance activities
• Investigate equipment failures and implement sustainable solutions
• Support longwall, development and outbye maintenance teams
• Lead and contribute to capital and improvement projects
• Work with operational stakeholders to improve equipment performance, availability and safety
• Ensure compliance with site standards, statutory requirements and engineering best practices

Required profile

• Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience in mining, heavy industry, manufacturing or resource operations
• Strong knowledge of maintenance and reliability principles
• Ability to analyse technical issues and develop practical solutions
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Advantageous: SAP experience, Queensland mining experience, exposure to underground coal operations, longwall systems, conveyors, fixed plant or mobile equipment
