The role sits within a multidisciplinary engineering group.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies and components for geospatial and mining products, covering concept, detailed design, verification, release, sustaining engineering and obsolescence.
- Manage 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings and technical documentation, and carry out engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection and design reviews.
- Run or support FEA, simulation and other engineering evaluations to validate designs.
- Develop prototypes, oversee their manufacture, assembly and testing, and take part in design reviews, technical risk assessments, verification, validation and environmental testing.
- Investigate product failures, run root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions, and support field evaluations and customer trials.
- Integrate electromechanical solutions with electronics, software and systems engineers, and work with manufacturing, quality, suppliers and external manufacturers on quality, cost, reliability and manufacturability.
- Maintain bills of materials, engineering reports and design records, support NPI and manufacturing handovers, drive engineering changes and sustainment, and mentor graduate and junior engineers.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- 3 to 5 years of product development experience, ideally with electromechanical or industrial products.
- Demonstrated experience designing, documenting and releasing manufactured products for production.
- Experience designing mechanical products for mining, industrial or other harsh environments.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
Required skills
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, including Onshape, and engineering drawing and design-revision management.
- GD&T, tolerance analysis, and structural, static and dynamic design principles.
- FEA and CFD simulation tools.
- DFMA principles, machining, fabrication, additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
- Sealing solutions, threaded assemblies, rotating equipment and power transmission components.
