Mechanical Engineer – Defence Systems (Hybrid)

About the role

Raytheon Australia is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the Australian Defence Force through rapid capability delivery. You will work within the Rapid Capability Delivery organisation, contributing to the design, integration, testing and delivery of mission‑critical systems across Electronic Warfare, Integrated Air and Missile Defence, Counter‑Uncrewed Air Systems and Communications projects.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to system design activities, including trade studies, ensuring mechanical designs align with system baselines and performance requirements.
• Perform technical risk analysis to support hazard logs, safety cases and risk mitigation.
• Develop and implement mechanical systems and sub‑systems according to standards, procedures and design requirements.
• Produce manufacture drawings that meet recognised standards.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high‑quality engineering outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience designing electronics enclosures and integrating components, preferably in a defence environment.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams with systems, electrical and specialty engineers.
• Exposure to shock and vibration analysis, equipment environmental standards, and testing.
• Experience designing for maintenance access, cooling analysis and cable routing is desirable.
