Mechanical Engineer – Copper Refinery & Port Operations

About the role

Glencore is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Engineering Department at the Townsville Operations, supporting both Copper Refineries Pty Ltd and Glencore Port Operations. This residential, Monday‑to‑Friday position offers the chance to work closely with frontline teams, embed safe work practices and contribute to continuous improvement in a complex industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support to production and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant and port assets.
• Support the planning, execution and delivery of operating and capital projects, ensuring compliance with scope, budget, schedule and safety requirements.
• Undertake engineering investigations, problem solving and root‑cause analysis to address equipment reliability, performance and safety issues.
• Prepare and review technical documentation, specifications and reports related to mechanical assets.
• Contribute to hazard identification, risk management and the embedding of safe work practices across engineering and maintenance activities.

Required profile

• Qualified Mechanical Engineer with a strong safety focus.
• Experience working in industrial, refinery or port environments is desirable.
• Ability to collaborate with operations, maintenance and frontline leadership teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
